New Delhi: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with a diluted corrosive liquid while on her way to work in northeast Delhi Tuesday morning. Police arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the incident.Police said the accused had known the woman for around six months and that the two were reportedly in a relationship. According to the inquiry, the woman had recently stopped speaking to him and had begun avoiding him, which allegedly angered the accused. Police said he subsequently purchased the chemical and attacked her with it.The incident took place around 7.10am near Ghonda Chowk. A PCR call regarding the attack was received at Bhajanpura police station, following which a team was immediately dispatched to the spot. By the time the team reached there, the woman had been shifted to JPC Hospital in a PCR van.According to police, the woman, who lives as a tenant in Ghonda, was on her way to Jafrabad, where she works, when the accused allegedly approached her, threw the liquid on her and fled.Police said the accused was identified during the initial inquiry and subsequently arrested. Investigators are also examining the circumstances leading to the attack and the source from which the accused procured the chemical.A case under Section 124(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with voluntarily causing grievous hurt through the use of acid or similar substances, has been registered at Bhajanpura police station.The woman was initially taken to JPC Hospital for treatment and was later shifted to GTB Hospital. She is currently undergoing treatment there.Investigators are now trying to establish when the accused purchased the chemical and whether he had planned the attack in advance.Police are also recording the woman’s statement and examining CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the sequence of events. Further investigation is underway.
