Gurgaon: A 50-year-old woman was brutally assaulted inside her house in Sohna after confronting an intruder who had allegedly entered the premises in her absence and demanded jewellery at knifepoint-like threat, police said.The victim, Usha Rani, a resident of Band Colony who works as a cook in a private society, had gone to the local court on May 14 to meet her lawyer and returned home around 12.30pm. After unlocking the main gate and entering the house, she found a young man already inside.According to police, when she questioned him about his presence, the intruder threatened to kill her unless she handed over all the jewellery kept in the house. When she resisted, he allegedly struck her on the head multiple times with an iron spiked disc-like object, leaving her bleeding profusely.As the woman screamed for help, the accused fled with her Samsung mobile phone, silver anklets and some cash.Neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing her cries and took her to the govt hospital in Sohna. She was later referred to Nalhar Medical College in Nuh and subsequently shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for further treatment. After receiving treatment, she returned home on Thursday.Police said a team from the Phawara Chowk police post reached the house after receiving information about the assault and found bloodstains inside the residence. Fingerprint experts, a dog squad and the scene-of-crime team later inspected the spot and collected forensic and electronic evidence.Based on the woman’s complaint, Sohna City police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS on May 15.
