Rajkot: A week after a 37-year-old man ended his life due to alleged mental harassment, the police booked four persons, including the deceased’s wife, her sister, her paramour and another woman, for driving him to take the extreme step.An FIR was registered at the Bhaktinagar Police Station by the deceased Amit Pathan’s cousin, Afzalkhan Pathan. Amit, a resident of Vivekanandnagar, was rushed to the civil hospital on June 6 after his nephew informed the family that he was vomiting. However, he was declared dead by the doctors.Police said the breakdown point for Amit appears to be a prolonged period of marital discord and mental agony. The complainant stated that Amit was married to his wife, Reshma, for about 17 years, and the couple had two teenage children aged 16 and 14. Over the past five years, Reshma allegedly had a habit of abandoning Amit to live “with others.” The situation escalated three months ago when she allegedly left her sleeping children in the middle of the night and eloped with a man named Kishan Gamara. It is alleged that Reshma and Kishan later subjected Amit to harassment and death threats on the phone. Before taking the drastic step, Amit recorded a video message alleging mental torture.
