Rajkot: Two weeks after a 29-year-old construction businessman ended his life, Rajkot Taluka police registered a case against his wife, her parents, relatives and another person for allegedly abetting his suicide, based on allegations in a suicide note.The victim, Parth Pitroda, was found hanged at his home on July 20. A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by his sister, Sheetal Rathod, 42.Police lodged an FIR against his widow Janki Kareliya his father-in-law Bipin Kareliya, mother-in-law Kapila Kareliya, sister-in-law Jil Pitroda, and brother-in-law Divyesh Pitroda, for abetment of suicide and related offenses.According to the complaint, Parth married Janki in 2018. While the couple initially had a harmonious marriage, disputes broke out. Sheetal alleged that her brother was subjected to severe restrictions and character assassination, adding that Parth suspected his wife was in an extramarital relationship.Janki reportedly left the matrimonial home in Oct 2024 to live with her parents and filed for divorce in family court in July 2025. The family alleged that Parth faced continual pressure to consent to dissolution of the marriage during court proceedings.The complainant detailed that on July 17, Parth called his other sister, Varsha, saying he wanted to see her face and his nephew’s face “once,” hinting at his intent to take the extreme step.When Sheetal tried calling him the next morning, he was unresponsive. Family members rushed to his house but could not find him, leading them to lodge a missing person’s complaint at Malviyanagar police station. He was found dead at his residence two days later on July 20.During the postmortem, the authorities recovered a suicide note on Parth’s body. The note accused his wife, her parents, her sister and others of subjecting him to prolonged mental harassment. It claimed he was repeatedly threatened with dire consequences if he did not agree to the divorce.
