Ghaziabad: Police arrested a Delhi govt employee’s wife and her suspected lover, a gym trainer, on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to kill him at their home in Vasundhara. Shashank Kanthariya (35), a senior accountant, was stabbed multiple times early on Monday while sleeping beside his daughter.Kanthariya’s wife Priya (32) left the house around 5am with the front door unlocked, as she did every morning when she left for the gym. Pratap Singh (30), her gym trainer with whom she was allegedly having an affair, took the opportunity to sneak in and stabbed Kanthariya several times. Kanthariya’s daughter, who was asleep next to him, woke during the attack and began crying, which drew neighbours to the scene.Singh fled the house but was chased by security guards and caught. They handed Singh over to the police, who detained him and, later, Priya for questioning in the case. Kanthariya was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently admitted to the ICU. His daughter was unhurt in the attack.Kanthariya’s brother Ritesh filed a police complaint in the case, and an FIR was subsequently registered against Singh and Priya under BNS sections 109 (attempt to murder), 333 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy). They were both sent to judicial custody after being presented in court on Tuesday.ACP (Indirapuram) Suryabali Maurya said that Pratap began working at Priya’s gym in Vasundhara in Jan this year and became her trainer. The two got into a relationship a month later. At the end of Sept, Kanthariya learned about the affair and asked her to end the relationship. He asked her to either change gyms or stop attending.Kanthariya planned to move and was looking at houses in Delhi, which Priya had opposed. Kanthariya planned on finalising a place this Sunday. Priya allegedly told Singh what was going on and the two began colluding to murder him.“When Priya left for the gym on Monday morning as usual, Singh took the opportunity to sneak in armed with two knives and attacked Kanthariya,” the ACP said.Police added that Kanthariya and Priya had been married for around five years and Priya had been divorced once before they got married in 2021.
