“When I smile, my ribs hurt”: Woman sues Rapido for denying compensation | Bengaluru News

Bengaluru: A 32-year-old interior designer, bedridden for nearly two months after a severe bike taxi crash, has issued a legal notice to mobility aggregator Rapido, demanding complete accountability and full reimbursement of her medical expenses.Sani Krishna was injured on June 17 while commuting to work from Byrasandra to Domlur. The bike-taxi rider was allegedly riding recklessly, leading to a collision that resulted in a tractor running over her.Krishna suffered seven fractured ribs, required emergency surgery to remove her spleen, and underwent facial plastic surgery. She is currently recovering at her native home in Kozhikode, Kerala. The legal notice demands that Rapido accept 100% responsibility for the accident, issue a written apology, and cover all past and future medical bills. Krishna’s legal team criticized Rapido’s attempt to cap its liability at an insurance payout of Rs 1 lakh, arguing that the company advertises accident coverage. “Only since the past one week, I’m able to talk. I can’t even smile now. When I smile, my ribs hurt. I can’t cry or express any emotions. This is the state I’m at right now. Though I have full belief that I will be fine, I will fight until they (Rapido) take accountability,” Sani told TOI, adding she has currently, spent above Rs 20 lakh for her treatment. While Rapido responded to the legal notice, Sani stated the claims by the aggregator are misleading. She said the family will approach consumer court in Bengaluru to gain compensation. Krishna’s family said no financial compensation apart from a minimal insurance was offered to date.Rapido stated Sani did not submit the supporting documents necessary for the claim. “An insurance claim can only be processed once the requisite claim form and supporting documentation are submitted by or on behalf of the claimant. Despite our repeated outreach, this documentation has not yet been provided. Rapido is ready to facilitate the process immediately upon its receipt, and will continue working closely with our insurance partner to ensure the claim is handled expeditiously once lodged,” a Rapido spokesperson said. However, Sani reiterated that all supporting documents have been shared.
