Lucknow: Residents hoping for an early monsoon respite may have to wait a little longer, as the meteorological department has forecast no significant relief from high temperatures in the state capital over the next three days.According to the department, monsoonal flow over the region remains weak, limiting the prospects of widespread rainfall this week. The southwest monsoon typically arrives in Uttar Pradesh between June 18 and June 20 and reaches Lucknow by June 23. The southwest monsoon has covered Keralam, most of southern India, the northeastern states, and parts of eastern and central India. On Sunday, the city reeled under hot and humid conditions, with the maximum temperature settling at 40.9 degrees Celsius, 3.5 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 30.6 degrees Celsius, 3.9 degrees above normal.“Daytime temperatures are likely to remain on the higher side for the next three days, with hot and humid weather continuing to prevail across the city. While some changes in weather patterns are expected after Thursday, these are unlikely to translate into any significant monsoon relief,” said Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the state Meteorological Department. He added that the maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday are likely to hover around 42 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively.Elsewhere in the state, Banda remained the hottest place, recording a maximum temperature of 42.6 degrees Celsius. It was followed by Prayagraj at 42.5 degrees Celsius, Varanasi at 42.4 degrees Celsius, and Kanpur at 42.3 degrees Celsius. The Met department has warned that heatwave conditions are very likely to occur at isolated places across the region. Weather conditions are expected to remain largely dry over western Uttar Pradesh, while isolated spells of rain and thundershowers are likely over eastern Uttar Pradesh.Heatwave conditions are also likely to prevail at a few places in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the department said.
