Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday promised to regularise the services of all temporary drivers and conductors in the state transport department if Congress forms govt after the 2027 assembly elections.Speaking during the eighth session of his live interaction, ‘Warring with Warriors’, the Congress MP from Ludhiana recalled his 111-day tenure as transport minister, claiming that several measures he took helped revive the state-run transport system.Warring alleged that a “transport mafia” involving a powerful political family and its associates had monopolised the sector, manipulating routes, timings and permits to the disadvantage of govt buses. He claimed that private buses were operating 99,000 additional kilometres daily through illegal route extensions, with 60,000 kilometres attributed to buses belonging to the same family.The PCC chief said action against such practices, along with higher taxes on certain private buses, helped increase govt transport revenue by ₹7.75 crore within 15 days.Warring said he regretted being unable to regularise temporary staff during his brief tenure and promised to do so if Congress returns to power in 2027.
