Hyderabad: The investigation into the murder of advocate Khaja Moizuddin has found that a complaint in 2023 by the victim, accusing Mahboob Alam Khan of financial irregularities in the Waqf committee, led to Mahboob losing his position after the existing committee was dissolved and a new committee was formed in 2025. His removal is said to have been the triggering factor in the conspiracy to kill Khaja.Apart from facilitating Mahboob Alam Khan’s exit, Khaja was made treasurer in the new committee. “This development did not go down well with Mahboob and his son Mujahed. This led them to bear a personal grudge against Khaja,” an investigator said.Later, a 10,000-square-yard Waqf land parcel in Malakpet, which had been leased to a finance company, was opposed by Mahboob, who in turn challenged it in court. However, supporting Mahboob’s opposing faction, Khaja took up the legal battle in favour of the leasing of the property. In connection with this issue, several cases and counter-cases were registered at the local police station by rival factions. During the course of the dispute, altercations also took place.Frustrated by frequent legal battles and alleged interference by Khaja, Mahboob, and his son allegedly conspired to eliminate the advocate. Mujahed contacted Hasan Ali and Munner to execute the murder. They, in turn, roped in Kishan, on whose request ₹2 lakh was allegedly arranged by Mujahed for the purchase of an SUV. It was using this SUV that they allegedly kept watch on Khaja’s movements.Later, on the morning of May 23, the accused allegedly executed the plan by ramming into Khaja with the SUV while he was about to get into his car.“All through, the alleged prime conspirators—Mahboob and his son—did not maintain direct contact with Kishan. Communication with the key executor, Kishan, was only through Hasan and Munner,” the police said. Meanwhile, the family members of Khaja are preparing to submit a representation to the police seeking personal security.
