Chennai: G S Sameeran, Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner, on Saturday inspected the functioning of biogas plants at Madhavaram and Anna Nagar.At Chinna Sekkadu, Madhavaram, the commissioner reviewed two biogas projects set up under a public-private partnership model. The facilities, spread across five acres and three acres, respectively, each have the capacity to process 100 tonnes of vegetable and food waste. He examined the process of converting organic waste into biogas and instructed officials to maximise gas production through effective utilisation of waste.Later, he inspected a 100-tonne biogas plant at Chetpet, Anna Nagar. Officials were directed to ensure a steady daily supply of wet waste required for the plant’s operations.Earlier, the commissioner also reviewed preparations for a new biogas plant proposed at Metrowater’s tertiary treatment plant campus at Koyambedu and instructed officials to commence the project at the earliest.
