Pune: An eatery owner died while his brother suffered injuries after a gas cylinder exploded, triggering a fire at their outlet near Dange Chowk in Wakad on Sunday night.“The incident took place around 8.30pm. The eatery is located on Datta Mandir Road near Dange Chowk,” said senior inspector Vitthal Salunkhe of the Wakad police.The deceased was identified as Shahzad Sheikh (20), a native of Uttar Pradesh. His brother is a partner in the business.According to the PCMC fire brigade, the eatery was located on the ground floor of a building housing several shops, while the upper floors were occupied by a paying guest (PG) facility.“A commercial LPG cylinder exploded inside the eatery around 8.30pm, triggering a fire. The workers panicked, and Shahzad suffered severe burn injuries. The blaze gutted the eatery, while flames and thick smoke spread to neighbouring shops,” Salunkhe said.Four fire tenders rushed to the spot after receiving the alert. The firefighters brought the blaze under control and rescued Shahzad from the eatery. He was taken to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.The firefighters also removed five to six commercial LPG cylinders from the eatery to prevent further explosions.Salunkhe said the two brothers had started the eatery in Jan this year and were serving biryani and other food items.
