Ludhiana: Eight years after a spine injury left him bedridden, Indian para table-tennis player Shubham Wadhwa has claimed the bronze medal at the ITTF world elite event in Thailand.He secured this victory in the mixed doubles XD-7 category alongside Bhavina Patel in Nakhon Ratchasima. The Thailand tournament, held from July 18 to 22, marked Wadhwa’s 20th international medal. The Ludhiana native also holds 10 national titles and is ranked world number 4 and Asia number 3 in mixed doubles.In singles, he is ranked number 1 in India, Asia number 6, and world number 15. Wadhwa suffered a spinal cord injury in a 2016 accident that left him bedridden for two years before taking up adaptive sport. “Table tennis gave me a new purpose and a new life,” Wadhwa said, thanking his sponsors and support network for aiding his recovery and career.Wadhwa is preparing for upcoming qualification events in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and China. His long-term goals include competing at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, the 2026 World Championships in Thailand, and the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
