Times News NetworkChennai/Salem: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Sunday called up the parents of the 10-year-old girl, who was murdered in Coimbatore and assured them the culprits would be punished..“Don’t worry, I am here for you,” Vijay assured the parents, according to sources at the secretariat. The child’s grandmother told Vijay no other child should undergo such torment.The chief minister assured that the govt would take steps to ensure such incidents did not recur. He also asked the family about their needs, including housing, and promised the necessary assistance.Transport minister Vijay Tamizhan Parthiban and backward classes welfare minister V Sampath Kumar met the child’s family on Sunday and handed over the ex-gratia of Rs 7 lakh under POCSO Act.Parthiban later told reporters that this was not just a loss for one family, but a tragedy for the entire state. “The govt is determined to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in Tamil Nadu. The police are conducting a speedy investigation. There will be no change in getting the culprits severely punished,” he said.BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran also met the affected family and offered his condolences. He told reporters that the incident has shocked the entire country. “The law and order situation in Tamil Nadu is in a bad state. The govt should take immediate and strict action to ensure that such incidents do not happen again,” he said.He demanded that the state govt provide compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family.
