Bengaluru: BMRCL has dropped the plan to construct Veterinary College Metro station, which was initially conceived as part of Sarjapur–Hebbal Namma Metro corridor under Phase III-A. Officials said the decision was taken following suggestion of the ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA), which reviewed the 37.8km project.Sarjapur–Hebbal Metro line, pending approval from central govt for a long time, has undergone modifications. Earlier, BMRCL revised the design of underground stations to bring down expenses, and it has now decided to remove the proposed Veterinary College station from the project.A senior MoHUA official said, “Officials had earlier inspected the alignment of the proposed Metro corridor and project area. They observed that the distance between Veterinary College and Ganganagar stations was less than one kilometre and that ridership at the station could be low. Based on this assessment, a recommendation was made to drop the station.”Following the revisions, the project cost is expected to come down to around ₹25,999 crore. The original DPR estimated that the 37.8km corridor, comprising 14.28km of underground and 23.524km of elevated sections, would cost Rs 28,405 crore. The state cabinet approved the project in Jan 10, 2025, and correspondence with the Centre seeking approval began in Jan 15, 2025.Meanwhile, BMRCL has engaged IIT Roorkee to study the feasibility of providing for a double-decker flyover along the elevated sections of Sarjapur–Hebbal corridor. “They are expected to submit their report shortly,” an official said.
