Very heavy rain forecast till Aug 3 across Gujarat
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast for isolated places across the state till Aug 3

Ahmedabad: While the rain battering has eased across Gujarat after days of intense downpours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the respite may be short-lived.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated places across the state till Aug 3, with very heavy rain likely over Banaskantha, Vav-Tharad, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Mahisagar, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari and Valsad, besides the union territories of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.According to the IMD, the wet spell is being driven primarily by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, one of the strongest monsoon weather systems, which is moving inland over West Bengal. At the same time, the monsoon trough remains active across central India, while cyclonic circulations over Rajasthan and the Arabian Sea are supplying additional moisture and unstable winds. Together, these weather systems are expected to trigger widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of western India, including Gujarat.Till 6am Monday, the state has received nearly 54% of its seasonal rainfall, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC).
