NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have received five complaints over the Tilak Nagar controversy involving PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma and AAP MLA Jarnail Singh, but no FIR has been registered in the matter so far, police said on Monday.The complaints include one from Saheb Singh, the man allegedly slapped during the road inspection, two from PWD personnel against Jarnail Singh and others, and two from BJP workers over the alleged mistreatment of Verma.Police said all five complaints were submitted at Vikaspuri and Tilak Nagar police stations and are being investigated.“A total of five complaints have been received by the Delhi Police regarding this matter so far. One of these complaints was filed by Sahib Singh, an associate of Jarnail Singh. Two complaints were lodged by PWD personnel against Jarnail Singh and others,” police said.“Meanwhile, two complaints were filed by BJP workers regarding the mistreatment of Minister Parvesh Verma. All five complaints were submitted to the Vikaspuri and Tilak Nagar police stations in Delhi. The Delhi Police is investigating all the complaints,” they added.
No FIR registered so far
Police clarified that no FIR has been registered on the basis of any of the five complaints so far.“As of now, no FIR has been registered based on any of the complaints. The road on both sides falls under the jurisdiction of the Vikaspuri police station, whereas the Gurudwara falls under the jurisdiction of the Tilak Nagar police station,” police said.
What triggered the Tilak Nagar row
The controversy erupted on Sunday after AAP leaders shared a purported video showing Verma appearing to slap a local youth during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar.The video showed Verma pulling down the man’s mobile phone before appearing to slap him.AAP held a protest in Tilak Nagar over the incident, with party leaders demanding action against the minister.Verma has denied the allegations and claimed that AAP workers abused and misbehaved with his family during the inspection. In a video statement posted on X, he alleged that supporters of AAP MLA Jarnail Singh verbally abused his family.Verma also accused Jarnail Singh of demanding commissions from officials involved in road projects and said attempts to obstruct government work or damage property would not be tolerated.
Saheb Singh had earlier been arrested
Delhi Police also said that a criminal case of assaulting an MCD employee had previously been registered against Saheb Singh.According to police, the earlier assault was captured on CCTV. Saheb Singh had been arrested in connection with that case and is currently out on bail, police said. TOI reported that the earlier case was registered at Tilak Nagar police station over the alleged assault and abduction of an MCD sanitation worker.Police also confirmed that Singh manages the social media accounts of local AAP MLA Jarnail Singh.The latest developments come amid competing allegations by the BJP and AAP over the road inspection and the events that followed. Police are examining all five complaints before deciding further action.(With ANI inputs)
