Pune: A vegetable vendor (30) from Dhankawdi suffered bullet wounds after a country-made pistol misfired around 12.30am on Monday at Sai Siddhi Chowk in Ambegaon Pathar.After the incident, the injured man and his two friends fled the spot. They reached a hospital in Khed-Shivapur. The vendor told the doctors, who were treating him, that he had met with an accident and that a rod had penetrated his thigh.“We have registered a case against the trio, including the injured man. We have detained one of them (19),” said Sudarshan Gaikwad, a senior inspector of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police.“The doctors started treating him and found the bullet in his thigh. They contacted us in the evening. Our team visited the hospital. It was later revealed that the pistol misfired at an open spot in Dhankawdi,” Gaikwad said.“The injured man and his two friends have been vegetable vendors. They have shops in the Dhankawdi and Ambegaon Pathar areas. The detained person had bought the weapon a few days ago,” he said, adding that he wanted to show off the weapon, so they reached Sai Siddhi Chowk and met. However, while handling the pistol, it went off, and the bullet hit one of the three friends.Gaikwad said, “The trio deliberately tried to suppress the crime.”
