Lucknow: The UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has announced that consumers who exceeded their sanctioned electricity load three times between Apr 1, 2025 and Mar 31, 2026 will have their sanctioned load automatically revised under the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (UPERC) tariff order for the financial year 2025-26.The auto regularisation applies equally to consumers using smart meters as well as electronic (non-smart) meters. According to the new tariff order, consumers will be informed after their sanctioned load has been increased.”The move is aimed at protecting consumers from recurring demand penalties imposed for drawing electricity beyond their approved load. Once the sanctioned load is revised, consumers will be less likely to face unnecessary additional charges in the future, reducing their financial burden,” said UPPCL in an official statement.The corporation added that aligning sanctioned load with actual electricity consumption will also help the power distribution system. ”Accurate load assessment will enable the department to strengthen power lines and transformer capacity, reduce overloading, minimise transformer failures and ensure safer, better quality and uninterrupted power supply,” said the official source.
