UP steps up on ground work for internet infra

Lucknow: In a move aimed at speeding up the rollout of 5G networks and strengthening telecom infrastructure across the state, UP govt on Monday directed all development authorities to expedite the process of disposing of the right-of-way applications. To speed up the telecom infrastructure projects, public authorities have been asked to respond to the applications submitted by the private agencies who apply for road-digging or trenching permissions in a time-bound manner. To lay down optical fibres, contractors and agencies involved with providing the infrastructure for high-speed internet connectivity have to damage the surface of the carriageway. The authorities concerned would have to respond to the applications within a period of 30 days after setting up a portal. The approval process would be carried out through the portal.Special area development authorities, the housing and development board, and district administrations have been asked to follow the directives issued by central govt as per the order issued in Sep 2024. “Every public authority is required to designate a nodal officer to deal with such applications. The framework also seeks to simplify the approval process,” said an officer from the department. UP govt said the updated provisions are intended to facilitate faster deployment of telecom infrastructure, thereby improving 5G connectivity across the state.
