Palanpur: Police in Aravalli district arrested an unmarried woman and her mother in connection with the recovery of a newborn baby’s body from in a well near Modasa town on May 14.According to police, the case came to light on May 14 after the body of a newborn infant was discovered a complaint was registered at Modasa Town police station under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, against an unidentified woman for allegedly abandoning the infant’s body to conceal childbirth.During the probe, police received information that a woman identified as Nasimbanu had stopped stepping out of her house after the incident. When questioned, she appeared nervous and failed to provide satisfactory answers. During sustained questioning, she allegedly revealed that she was engaged to a man from Vadgam village in Dhansura taluka, and that the two had consensual physical relations, following which she became pregnant.According to police, Nasimbanu claimed she was unaware of the pregnancy until she suddenly developed abdominal pain. She informed her mother, Aminabanu who allegedly helped deliver the baby at home during the night.As the woman was unmarried and the family feared social stigma, the mother allegedly wrapped the newborn’s body in a red cloth and threw it into a nearby well, police said.
