Ulfa-I cadre Diganta Chetia
Dibrugarh: An Ulfa-I cadre, who held the self-styled rank of ‘major’, surrendered before Tinsukia Police on Monday after spending about 15 years in Myanmar.Diganta Chetia, alias Anoljoy Asom, a resident of No. 2 Talpathar village in Tinsukia district, joined the banned outfit in 2011. He reportedly settled in Myanmar, became part of the community and married a Myanmar national.Additional SP (Headquarters) Mrinmoy Das said Chetia did not bring any weapon while surrendering. Police are questioning him about his activities, responsibilities in Ulfa-I and his stay in Myanmar.The development is considered significant for Tinsukia district, which is regarded as security-sensitive because of its proximity to the India-Myanmar border.
