Two murders in 24 hours jolt Mohali; 1 held

Mohali: Two separate murders within a span of 24 hours have jolted Mohali district, prompting swift police action and heightened public concern. One accused has been arrested, while investigations continue in the second case.In the first incident, a 23‑year‑old youth, Sunny, was murdered in Badali village under Kharar Sadar police station following a dispute over a financial transaction. Police have arrested Sanjeev, while the prime suspect — another youth also named Sunny — remains absconding.According to police, the dispute involved two youths from the same village who shared the same name. To resolve the issue, 22-year-old Sunny, accompanied by his friend Sanjeev, went to meet 23-year-old Sunny. During the meeting, an argument broke out and soon turned violent.Kharar DSP Ishan Singla said that during the altercation, Sanjeev allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the abdomen and throat. The injured youth was rushed to a civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. While Sanjeev was apprehended by bystanders and handed over to the police, the other accused managed to flee.Kharar DSP Ishan Singla confirmed Sanjeev’s arrest and said raids are underway to trace the absconding accused. Preliminary findings suggest a financial dispute as the motive. All three involved were residents of Badali village, originally from Uttar Pradesh.Jhampur murderIn a separate incident late Saturday night, the blood‑soaked body of Deepak Kumar, a resident of Maloya, Chandigarh, was discovered on a riverside path in Jhampur village under Balongi police station. He had sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest. An auto‑rickshaw driver spotted the victim around 9.30 pm, initially mistaking him for being intoxicated. On closer inspection, he found severe injuries and alerted police. Deepak was rushed to civil hospital but declared dead.Police have registered a murder case against unidentified persons and are examining CCTV footage, phone dump data, and tracing the victim’s movements to establish how he reached Jhampur and who may have been involved.Police teams are pursuing multiple leads to crack both cases and apprehend all those responsible.
