Gurgaon: The need to secure your house properly when going away for a few days or even going to work was underlined by two break-ins in the city on two successive days this week. Cash, gold, silver and other valuables were taken away.The first burglary came to light on the morning of Aug 25, when Pataudi-based advocate Deepak Sehrawat returned home with his family. The burglars stole Rs 50,000 in cash, a three-tola gold bracelet, a 1.5-tola mangalsutra, a half-tola gold locket, a silver ring and a coin kept inside the almirah locker.In his complaint, Deepak said he and his family had left on Aug 6 to visit his ailing brother and, following his death, went to their village in Tauru. Deepak continued to travel between the village and Pataudi because of court work.He last visited the house on Aug 21 and found everything in order. On his return on Aug 25, around 10:30 a.m., he found the inner gate unlocked and its latch broken. On checking the almirah in the inner room, they found that the valuables were missing.“A fingerprint expert and police examined the scene. Photographs of the spot were also taken. An iron rod was found at the scene,” an investigator said.A case was registered under BNS sections related to lurking, house-trespass or house-breaking by night and theft at the Pataudi police station.In the second case, thieves broke into Simran Verma’s house in Ardee City, Sector 52, on Aug 24, while she and her husband were away at work. They stole Rs 60,000 in cash, 200 US dollars and a large quantity of gold and silver jewellery and watches.Simran complained that she and her husband left for work around 10:15 a.m. and returned around 6 p.m. to find the main gate of their house broken.“Police secured the scene and called a fingerprint expert and dog squad,” an investigator said. The police are looking at CCTV footage from nearby areas.A case was registered under BNS sections related to lurking house-trespass or house-breaking and theft.
