New Delhi: A man was allegedly shot at during a Muharram procession over an old social media dispute in east Delhi‘s Old Seemapuri in the early hours of Friday. Two people, including a juvenile, have been apprehended. Police said there was no communal angle behind the attack.Irfan, a local, went to participate in the procession near the Monday market with a friend around 1.30am. According to police, around 2.15am, a man, identified as Saleem, allegedly signalled his associates by whistling. “Moments later, Faizan (22) and another associate intercepted Irfan, following which one of them claimed to have pulled out a countrymade pistol and fired two rounds before fleeing the spot,” said DCP (Shahdara) Rajendra Prasad Meena.Police said Irfan was hit on the back of his shoulder and abdomen. He is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.Inquiry revealed that the accused were known to the victim. “The motive was an old enmity stemming from a post on social media,” an officer said. Another officer added that the accused also wanted to show off by carrying out the attack.An FIR was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Arms Act. Faizan, a resident of Ghaziabad, has been arrested. He has previous criminal involvement, police said. A countrymade pistol and two live cartridges have been seized.
