Varanasi: Two chain-snatchers were arrested after an exchange of fire with Madhuban police in Mau district early Sunday morning. One of the miscreants suffered bullet injury in the leg and was arrested. The duo was on police radar for snatching a woman’s gold chain on Jul 2.Mau SP Kamlesh Bahadur said that on being alerted about movement of the criminals Madhuban police cordoned off a road leading from the temple at Bhairopur Bandha to Raju Chowk. During a checking drive, they tried to stop the motorcycle-borne duo who tried to escape by opening fire at the police team and during retaliatory action, one of miscreants suffered bullet injury in the leg and fell on the road. Police nabbed the duo. The injured miscreant was identified as Nitish Yadav (20) and his aide as Vishal Sonkar (19), both residents of Doharighat. The SP said that after recovering a looted gold chain, the motorcycle, two country-made pistols and cartridges from their possession, police rushed the injured to hospital.
