Gurgaon: Days after the bodies of a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were recovered from the Agra Canal in Faridabad with their hands tied, police are now probing allegations of harassment and suspected murder after the woman’s husband lodged a complaint detailing the events leading up to their deaths.The bodies of Akash alias Akku and Rajni alias Rashmi were recovered from the canal on July 11 after police received information around 4pm that a man and a woman had jumped into the Agra Canal near the BPTP bridge.In his complaint, Rajni’s husband, Shivam Kumar, a resident of Saraswati Colony in Faridabad’s Sehatpur, said they had been married for around 10 years and had been living with his brother-in-law, Himanshu, for the past two years. He stated that Rajni, who worked as a makeup artist, had started visiting a gym in Sector 31 about two months ago, where she came into contact with Akash.Shivam alleged that Akash had been harassing his wife. He claimed that after Rajni informed him about the issue, he confronted Akash, who apologised. However, according to the complaint, the alleged harassment resumed about 10 days before the incident.According to Shivam, Rajni told her brother on July 11 that she was going to meet Akash to question him about his behaviour. She left home in her car around 2pm. At about 4.30pm, Shivam said he received information that his wife and a man had jumped into the canal.Police said teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. A crime scene team examined the vehicle and recovered two mobile phones and a blood-stained hammer, which were seized. Bloodstains found inside the car are also being examined. The vehicle was registered in Rajni’s name, police said.Shivam told police that he suspects Akash had attacked his wife with the intention of killing her, threw her into the canal and then jumped in himself. He urged police to trace his wife and take legal action.Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at BPTP police station under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of BNS on July 12. Officials said all possible angles are being examined to establish the sequence of events, with further action depending on forensic findings and post-mortem reports.Police said eyewitnesses initially told investigators that the two had arrived at the canal in the same car and were seen arguing before the dispute allegedly turned physical. According to the eyewitnesses, the woman moved towards the canal and jumped in, following which the man also jumped in. Police said it is yet to be established who jumped first.ACP (central) Rajeev Kumar said statements of both families are being recorded as the investigation continues.
