Kolkata: Two men from Haryana were arrested by Kolkata Police for allegedly defrauding an elderly Kolkata woman of Rs 3.7 crore in a digital arrest scam by posing as police officers two years ago.The accused, identified as Deepak Tewatia and Akhil Bansiyal, were produced before the Bankshall court on Saturday. The court has sent them to police custody till Aug 7. The victim had lodged a complaint with Kolkata Police cyber cell on Nov 2024.Cyber crime officers traced the money trail and found that around Rs 45 lakh had been routed through bank accounts linked to the accused before they were arrested in Haryana. Public prosecutor Arup Chakraborty said the accused, posing as police personnel, intimidated the elderly victim.
