Ludhiana: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) marked World Book and Copyright Day with a call for students to balance digital consumption with the “timeless” value of printed literature.The event at Mohinder Singh Randhawa Library featured academic leaders and literary experts who emphasised books as the foundation of innovation and cultural preservation. PAU vice-chancellor Satbir Singh Gosal told attendees at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Auditorium that: “Books remain essential in shaping intellect and fostering new ideas across all disciplines.”The event moved beyond theory to offer practical insights into the industry. Ranjit Singh, former dean of the College of Agriculture, provided a masterclass on the mechanics of publishing, advising aspiring writers on how to ensure their work is both effective and marketable to modern readers. District language officer Sandeep Sharma urged the student body to look beyond their textbooks, advocating for a diverse reading habit that blends traditional print with digital resources.To encourage active participation, the university hosted slogan-writing and book-cover design competitions. University librarian Yogita Sharma noted that the initiative serves as a critical effort to revitalise a reading culture within the faculty and student body.
