Hyderabad: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has urged Union chemicals and fertilisers minister Jagat Prakash Nadda to immediately compensate Telangana for a 0.47 lakh metric tonne (LMT) shortfall in urea supplies during April and ensure full allocation of the state’s June quota of 2 LMTs ahead of the kharif season.In a letter to Nadda, Tummala Nageswara Rao pointed out that Telangana received only 1.53 LMTs of urea against the allocated 2 LMTs in April, resulting in a deficit of 0.47 LMTs. He also expressed concern over supplies during May, stating that only 1.67 LMTs had been dispatched so far against the monthly requirement of 2 LMTs.

He said the shortfall had affected buffer stock creation at district and mandal levels and warned that the state may find it difficult to absorb further supply gaps during the ongoing kharif season.Seeking the Centre’s intervention, Tummala Nageswara Rao requested that fertilizer importers be directed to make up the April deficit immediately and that Telangana be allotted its full June quota of 2 LMTs along with an additional 0.47 LMTs to compensate for earlier shortages.
