“For us Monday is Navami, or the ninth day. On Tuesday, we would observe Dashami with Sindoor Khela. However, we are going to immerse our idols Wednesday,” said Sudipto Sen, president of the committee.Across town at Raja Park, the SDM Park Puja committee kept Sunday as a second Saptami, repeating the rituals performed a day earlier. Organisers said their decision was guided by the precise tithi.“In our puja, Ashtami will kick off on Monday morning, while Navami will take place early Tuesday. We want to follow the exact tithi,” said Manik Das Adhikari. In Vaishali Nagar, Dhaknishwar Kali Bari chose a middle course. The committee continued Saptami rituals Sunday, planned Ashtami from around 3 am Monday, and Navami rituals with Sandhi Puja around 7 am. Dashami and immersion are to be observed Tuesday.“There are two beliefs — Gupta Panjika and Bisuddha Siddhanta Panjika. Like Ramkrishna Mission, several organisers are following the Bisuddha belief, while we are following rituals according to the Gupta Panjika timings,” said Ashok Chatterjee, president of Jai Durga Welfare Trust.
