Ponda: Babi Gurudas Naik, 51, a resident of Tankwada, Usgao, was injured after the tipper truck he was driving overturned and came to rest on its side at Curti-Ponda on the Curti-Shapur bypass of the Goa-Karnataka national highway on Saturday.Police said the truck was carrying M-sand, or manufactured sand, which spilled onto the road after the accident, forcing traffic police to divert vehicles via the service road.A relative of Naik who visited the accident spot said the truck was carrying manufactured sand from Usgao to a ready-mixed concrete (RMC) plant at Kundaim.While proceeding towards Ponda, a rod connected to the steering reportedly broke suddenly, causing the truck to veer to the right. It crossed the road divider before overturning.A passerby rushed Naik to the Ponda Sub-district Hospital. Police were in the process of registering a motor vehicle accident case until evening.
