Truck helper crushed to death after jumping from trailer after collision in Gurgaon
Police said the driver abandoned the truck at the spot and fled

Gurgaon: A 24-year-old man died after being run over by the trailer truck he was travelling in on Gurgaon-Faridabad Road near Gwal Pahari on Sunday.The deceased, Shani Yadav, was a native of Kanpur district in UP and had been working as a truck helper with a transport company in the city for the past two years.According to a complaint filed by his father, Rajendra Singh, the accident occurred near the Valley View Society traffic signal at Gwal Pahari while Shani was on a Hyva truck (HR-65B-8499) travelling from Gurgaon towards Faridabad.In his complaint, Rajendra alleged that the driver, identified as Vikas, was driving rashly and negligently. As the truck approached the traffic signal, where several vehicles were stationary, Shani fell from the moving vehicle and was dragged for some distance.The complaint further alleged that the truck rammed into vehicles waiting at the signal, including a WagonR and an MG car. Police said the driver abandoned the truck at the spot and fled.Investigators said they are examining the exact circumstances that led to Shani falling from the vehicle. Preliminary inquiries suggest he may have attempted to jump from the truck and flee after the collision, but was crushed under the heavy vehicle.Rajendra said he was informed about his son’s death on the phone on June 21. He subsequently travelled to Gurgaon with family members and identified the body at the city mortuary. He told police that he last spoke to his son on June 20, when Shani informed him that the truck had been loaded and was heading for unloading work. Rajendra said Shani had secured the helper’s job through another employee, Akhilesh, who worked as a driver with the same company.Shailendra Yadav, the victim’s uncle, told TOI that the family would stage a protest if the accused was not arrested soon.Based on the complaint, police registered a case at DLF Phase-I police station under provisions related to rash driving and causing death by negligence. Officials said the owner of the truck has been contacted and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver.The body was handed over to the family after the autopsy on Monday.
