Tree trimming: Ahmedabad residents can now pay charges on the spot

Ahmedabad: Residents of private housing societies will no longer have to visit civic centres to pay charges for tree trimming, with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) deciding to enable on-the-spot online payment after a complaint is raised. The decision was taken at Thursday’s standing committee meeting while reviewing the implementation of the civic body’s Tree Trimming and Green Waste Collection policy. Standing committee chairman Kamlesh Patel said the policy, introduced last month, allows citizens to apply online for tree trimming services.“An online collection module has been included in the policy so citizens can pay the prescribed charge and receive a receipt directly on the spot,” Patel said. He added that instructions had been issued to make the facility operational immediately to prevent inconvenience to residents. The committee also reviewed the cleaning of water tanks across the city. Patel said AMC has 243 water tanks, each of which is required to be cleaned twice a year according to a fixed schedule. So far, 96 tanks have been cleaned as per schedule. Officials have been instructed to ensure regular cleaning and continuous monitoring of the work. The committee also decided to repossess two plots in Motera and Ognaj allotted to UGVCL on a 99-year lease for construction of sub-divisional offices. Though the decision was taken in 2023, UGVCL has neither paid the prescribed land price nor started work despite repeated notices. The estate department has been asked to identify other allotted plots where payments have not been made or deadlines have lapsed, and initiate cancellation proceedings as per rules.
