Times News NetworkMapusa: Intense monsoon rain and strong winds triggered multiple incidents across Bardez on Tuesday, damaging property and disrupting normal life.At Ranoi, Aldona, a family narrowly escaped harm when a massive tree crashed onto their house, sealing the only entrance and trapping the occupants inside. Fire and emergency services personnel cut through dense foliage to create access. The impact also snapped an electricity pole and damaged vehicles, with losses estimated at more than Rs 1 lakh.In another incident at Aldona, a large tree collapsed onto a parking shed, destroying a section of the structure and severely damaging two vehicles parked inside.No casualties or injuries were reported in either incident.At Gaunsawada, Mapusa, a landslide caused panic after a large boulder rolled downhill and damaged a resident’s well. The slide also affected the retaining wall of an ongoing mega project on the hillside. The D’Sa family, living below the site, said that they fear the weakened wall could collapse onto their house.Amid the monsoon challenges, Mapusa MLA Joshua De Souza inspected the drainage network at Cunchelim to assess water flow and prevent flooding. Finding heavy mud buildup blocking a stretch of the drain, he directed the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) officials to clear it immediately and said inspections would continue through the rainy season to prevent waterlogging.
