Panaji: A 21-year-old man from Karnataka almost drowned while scrambling to retrieve an expensive ring that had fallen to the seabed. The man had to be rescued by Drishti Marine lifesavers.The incident occurred at Calangute beach when a tourist dropped his ring into the water. While searching for it, he moved into deeper water and quickly began to struggle. Two lifesavers, Maphijul Mistri and Rana Kumar Yadav, rushed to his aid and brought him back ashore, using rescue tubes.At Sernabatim beach, lifesavers rescued a 33-year-old woman from Pune, who accidentally twisted her foot while walking on the beach. She was provided first aid and assisted on her way back to her hotel.Despite the onset of the monsoons and ample advisories, tourists and children continue to wade into the choppy waters. Lifeguards struggle to monitor and persuade tourists to return to shallow waters, particularly at Baga and Calangute.
