Bengaluru: After years of complaints from residents about dust, craters, and unsafe commuting conditions, Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) commissioner DS Ramesh Tuesday inspected the long-pending works on Gunjur Club House Road and directed officials to complete the remaining stormwater drain project within 15 days. The move comes as a relief for thousands of residents who have been enduring poor road conditions on the crucial 400-metre stretch that connects Gunjur to Varthur, Sarjapur, and the Outer Ring Road. Citizens have repeatedly alleged that the road has remained in a deteriorated condition for nearly two years, affecting daily commute, damaging vehicles, and disrupting businesses. The Times of India had highlighted these ordeals in a report titled ‘Key tech corridor crumbles into dust storm, craters and chaos’ Tuesday.During the inspection, the commissioner reviewed the ongoing rajakaluve (stormwater drain) development work and noted that around 60% of the project has been completed. He instructed officials to finish the remaining stretch connecting Vajpayee Stadium and Gunjur Palya canal within the next 15 days.Importantly for residents, Ramesh also directed engineers to begin road asphalting immediately after completion of drain work and ensure that road restoration is taken up on priority. The assurance comes after growing frustration among commuters, who say the stretch has turned into a “dust bowl” with loose stones, excavated material, and deep craters making travel hazardous. Residents have long demanded not just the completion of the drain project but restoration of a motorable road at the earliest. While residents have welcomed the commissioner’s visit and fresh deadline, they remain cautiously optimistic. Their demand is simple: complete the drain works, asphalt the road immediately, and end a civic nightmare that has dragged on for far too long.
