New Delhi: An inflatable rubber boat was brought inside the House during a general meeting of MCD Monday by AAP councillors to highlight the severity of waterlogging in several parts of the city following heavy rain.AAP councillors first filled the boat with air outside the House and then carried it inside while raising slogans and standing on the benches.Following the disruption, mayor Pravesh Wahi adjourned the House for about 10 minutes. The proceedings resumed later amid exchanges between BJP and Opposition councillors. The meeting continued till 6.30pm.Leader of opposition in the House Anukush Narang alleged BJP had failed to address the “serious” issue. “The city has never witnessed this kind of waterlogging before,” he said, alleging the civic administration had failed to take adequate measures to deal with the situation.Responding, Wahi said, “AAP councillors frequently seek to avoid constructive discussions on matters of public interest and, instead, create unnecessary disruptions during House proceedings.”He also issued a stern warning to the councillors, saying that maintaining the dignity and decorum of the House was the responsibility of every councillor. If such “unparliamentary conduct” was repeated, appropriate action would be taken as per the rules, he added.Meanwhile, the meeting also witnessed discussions on a range of civic issues, with waterlogging, drains, the mosquito menace and stray dogs among key concerns raised by councillors.Wahi said that as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare facilities for elected representatives, serving councillors would be provided medical treatment facilities at rates applicable under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).
