To avoid returning home, boy raises kidnap alarm

Gorakhpur: A 12-year-old boy triggered a kidnapping scare in Gorakhpur after repeatedly shouting that he had been abducted while being taken home by his mother and maternal uncle. Police later found that the child had staged the drama because he did not want to leave his uncle’s house and return to studies after the summer vacation.The boy, Aryan, son of Bharat Bhushan Shukla, a private company employee and resident of Shastri Nagar Colony, is a Class VI student. He spent his summer holidays at the Rapti Nagar residence of his maternal uncle, Ravi Mishra.According to police, Aryan’s mother, Shalini Devi, arrived at her brother’s house on Tuesday evening to bring him back home. Around 10 pm, as Shalini, Ravi and Aryan left on a motorcycle, the boy began shouting for help. “Help me, I have been kidnapped. The man and woman on the bike are kidnappers,” he screamed, drawing attention of residents and passersby. Alarmed locals informed police, triggering a late-night search operation by teams from Chiluatal and Shahpur police stations.Police reviewed CCTV footage and tracked the motorcycle’s movement before reaching the family’s home in Shastri Nagar around 2 am. During questioning, officers discovered that the child was safe and had played mischief.Aryan told police he did not want to return home and resume studies. He said he preferred staying with his uncle and grandmother so as his mother and uncle were taking him home, he raised the false alarm.His mother confirmed that the boy was reluctant to leave his maternal relatives’ home.Chiluatal SHO Suraj Singh said police acted promptly after receiving information about a possible kidnapping but found that the child was with his family members and that no crime occurred.
