Chennai: The education department has commenced the distribution of books for upper primary, high school and higher secondary classes.The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation has delivered at least 3.72 crore books for Classes IV-XII to the godowns. As many as 6.46 lakh out of 13.01 lakh books for Class I; 5.81 lakh out of 12.79 lakh books for Class 2; and 6.75 lakh out of 12.84 lakh books have been delivered to Class III as of date.“At present, we are distributing the books to Classes VI-XII of govt and aided schools. School heads can also collect the books themselves. Instructions were given to private schools to purchase books from these godowns directly. All the books will reach students on Day 1 of reopening,” school education director S Kannappan said, inspecting the delivery at a godown in the city on Tuesday.For primary classes, distribution will commence later this week and would reach schools by end of May. Classes I-III are getting new books printed this year in line with the state education policy. “The remaining books for Classes I-III will be distributed by May 15,” said M Aarthi, MD, TNTESC. TNN
