Bengaluru: A court held a 30-year-old man guilty of beating his father to death with a rod in their Rajajinagar residence, on Jan 10, 2025, and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,000.Timely collection and preserving evidence like blood samples and biometrics helped in the fast conviction, police said.Raghu C, who was unemployed, killed Ramachandra, 59, who was a car/truck driver. Police said Raghu returned home intoxicated on Jan 10 night and created a ruckus, which he would do frequently.Public prosecutor Chinna Venkataramanappa said the chargesheet mentioned Raghu had a history of troubling his family, often demanding money from his father to buy alcohol. Despite his father’s repeated attempts to reason with him and encourage him to be more responsible, Raghu refused to change his habits.“That night, Raghu hit Ramachandra on the head with a steel rod, causing instant death. Raghu was arrested immediately. Since then, he has been in judicial custody of Bengaluru Central Prison,” Venkataramanappa said.The chargesheet contained statements from 30 witnesses and others. Besides, there were medical and forensic science laboratory reports too.Deputy commissioner of police (north) BS Nemagoud said scientific collection and preservation of evidence from the crime scene played a vital role in the conviction. “Bloodstains on the steel rod matched those of the victim, and fingerprints were those of Raghu,” he said.
