Surat: Sachin police arrested three women with 42kg of ganja valued at around Rs 21 lakh from a house in Pardi-Kanade village on the outskirts of Surat.Police said the accused arrived with the consignment and were staying at the residence of a relative.Sachin police’s assistant inspector Indrajitsinh Vanar received information that suspicious activity was taking place at house number 240 in Ambikanagar, Pardi-Kanade. During verification, police found that two women from Odisha arrived in Surat with a ganja consignment.Based on the input, a raid was conducted, and three women — Sita Dalai, 29, Sukanti Nahak, 54, and Arti Baraad, 40 — were detained with the narcotics.During the search, police recovered three suitcases and one bag containing 21 bundles of ganja wrapped in paper.Police said preliminary questioning revealed that Dalai rented the house and was staying there with her two children to avoid suspicion. Baraad is her sister-in-law, while Nahak is Baraad’s aunt. Dalai allegedly promised both women Rs 10,000 for each trip to deliver ganja consignment to Surat.They arrived in Surat on Monday by the Ahmedabad-Jagannathpuri train. This was their third trip to Gujarat for similar deliveries.Police said the consignment was intended to be handed over to a person named Zala, and teams were formed to trace and arrest him.
