Chennai: Three of a family from Madurai died in a road accident in Villupuram district on Sunday as the car in which they were travelling rammed against the parapet of a bridge on the Chennai-Trichy national highway when the car driver attempted to overtake another vehicle.The incident happened around 7.45am when the family from Pazhanganatham in Madurai district were heading from Madurai to Chennai to attend an engagement function in their own car. When the car was crossing a bridge in Pedagam village near Villupuram, the vehicle rammed against the parapet.In the incident, three persons, Selvam, 63, his wife Selvi, 55, and car driver Chellapandian, 40, died on the spot and two of their kin, Kavitha, 48, and Selvam’s son Praveen, 30, sustained injuries. The injured duo were immediately rushed to Villupuram GH for treatment.The police have filed a case and are investigating the incident.
