Thief takes tea break during 4-shop hit

Patiala: In an unusual burglary that was wrapped up in two hours, an unidentified man broke into four shops near the Dolewal railway crossing in Dhuri town of Punjab‘s Sangrur district, taking a break mid-crime to brew tea and wash his cup, police said.CCTV footage shows the thief calmly opening a refrigerator for milk, cooking tea on a stove, drinking it, and cleaning the utensils before resuming his search for valuables late Friday night.He allegedly gained entry through an upper gate and moved between adjoining rooftops. Shop owner Swarnjit Singh said the burglar struck at his establishment first. He reported losses of Rs 26,000–Rs 27,000 in cash and agricultural tools. It was at his neighbour Simranjit Singh‘s shop that the thief decided to take a tea break.“He broke open our counters and took around Rs 1,500 in cash and a mobile phone. After that, he made tea for himself and then washed the cup and utensils before leaving them at their place,” Simranjit said.Total stolen items across the shops include cash, phones, drill machines, and hard disks. Police said the suspect also damaged CCTV cameras in two shops.Inspector Ramandeep Singh, station house officer, Dhuri City, said a case has been registered and efforts to identify the burglar are underway.
