Theft accused bites cop’s hand in Sohna, arrested

Gurgaon: A 28-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attacked a police team.Sahil alias Rukka — a repeat offender — bit a constable on the hand, tore policemen’s uniforms and attempted to assault them with stones while officers tried to arrest him in connection with a theft case in Sohna. The accused was produced before a city court, which remanded him to judicial custody.A resident of Nat Colony in Sohna, Sahil has been named in six previous criminal cases, mostly related to theft and other offences in the city.The incident took place during the intervening night of July 14 and 15, when a team from Sohna City police station was on patrol. According to police, ASI Satbir and constable Bajrang received information through an emergency response vehicle (ERV) about the theft of cash and a mobile phone from a car parked near Ambedkar Chowk in Sohna.After reaching the spot, the police examined CCTV footage and identified the suspect as Sahil. “When the police team reached his residence to question him, Sahil attacked the officers. He bit one constable on the hand, assaulted the personnel, tore their uniforms and attempted to pelt them with stones. Two policemen sustained injuries in the scuffle before the accused was overpowered and taken into custody,” a police officer said.Police registered a case against Sahil under relevant sections for assaulting public servants and obstructing govt duty. A separate FIR was also registered against him on the complaint of the theft victim.In Palwal, a man allegedly attacked a PCR team, tore the uniform of a special police officer and damaged a police vehicle after officers intervened in a domestic dispute in Bhiduki village on Wednesday.The incident took place after the police control room received a distress call from a woman who alleged that her brother, Rajesh, was assaulting and harassing family members. A team reached the village along with a driver constable and an SPO.The police team found the complainant, her family members and Rajesh at the spot and began speaking to both sides to defuse the situation. During the intervention, Rajesh became aggressive, abused his family members and then turned on the police personnel.Police said when SPO Umesh Chand tried to restrain him, Rajesh pushed him, tore his uniform and picked up a brick to attack the police team. “One of the bricks struck the driver’s-side window of the PCR vehicle, shattering the glass. Splinters from the broken window hit constable Amit Yadav on the chest, causing minor injuries,” a police officer said.The accused fled the spot after the attack and threatened both his family members and the police team with dire consequences before escaping. Based on a complaint, Hasanpur police station registered an FIR against Rajesh under relevant sections for assaulting public servants, obstructing govt duty, damaging govt property, criminal intimidation and assault.
