Chennai: Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi MLA Thamimun Ansari urged the state govt to appeal against the order of a Madras High court on reservation for converted Muslims.Ansari met state Law minister R Nirmalkumar along with legal experts at the secretariat and made a representation in this regard. Speaking to reporters, Ansari said he pointed out the ‘flaws’ in the judgement to the minister.“We said that the judgement was against the state govt order in 2024 in which converted Muslims were provided reservation under BC(M) category. The minister assured that state govt will take definite action,” Ansari said.The Chidambaram MLA said those who voluntarily got converted to Islam can get a community certificate in any one of the seven castes among Muslims to avail the reservation, which is stated in the GO.“Courts are the last resort for common man to seek justice, and democratic force shouldn’t allow the legal process to be trampled,” Ansari said.Recently, the Madurai High Court struck down the GO passed in 2024, which provided reservation for converted Muslims under BC(M) category.
