New Delhi: Delhi govt has initiated the process of filling vacant EWS/freeship seats in Class II and above in private unaided recognised schools operating on govt or DDA-allotted land for the 2026-27 academic session, with schools given till Sept 3 to verify the vacancy data compiled by Directorate of Education (DoE).According to a circular issued by DoE’s private school branch on Aug 31, a tentative list of vacancies has been prepared for eligible schools running on land allotted by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) or other govt agencies. Minority schools have been excluded from the exercise.Schools have been asked to check the number of EWS/freeship vacancies once again. In case of any discrepancy, they can submit a written representation to the zonal authority concerned by Sept 3. The representations will be examined at the zonal level, following which proposals recommended by the district authorities are to be submitted by Sept 5.The department said that if no representation is received from a school, the vacancy data already compiled will be presumed to be correct. Candidates will subsequently be allotted seats through a computerised draw of lots.Once an allotment is made on the basis of the declared vacancies, schools will not be permitted to deny admission to successful candidates on the ground that no vacancy exists, the circular stated. It added that appropriate action may be taken against schools refusing admission on this ground under relevant provisions of Delhi School Education Act and Rules and the Right to Education Act, 2009.
