Surat: Textile processing units in South Gujarat have decided to increase job-work charges by 15% from Sept 7, citing a sustained rise in operating costs.The decision was taken at a general meeting of the South Gujarat Textile Processors Association (SGTPA) held on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by SGTPA president Jitendra Vakhariya and attended by association members, including Pandesara Industrial Association president Kamalvijay Tulsian.Processors said the cost of key inputs, including coal, dyes and chemicals, labour, electricity and other raw materials, has risen sharply in recent months. The higher costs have put pressure on production expenses, working capital and the overall viability of processing units.After discussing market conditions and the financial pressures facing the industry, members unanimously resolved to raise the existing job-work charges by 15%. The revised charges will apply to consignments dispatched from September 7.The association said the hike was not aimed at increasing profits but at offsetting the rise in operating costs and ensuring the viability of processing units, employment and stability across the textile value chain.
