Pune: The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in the state is now expected to be held in Sept after officials said the entire examination process has to be restarted and conducting the test immediately is not possible.Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) has begun preparations to conduct the assessment online, senior officials confirmed. The council had scheduled the TET on June 28 this year at the examination centres across the state. However, a paper leak case came to light in Thane district on June 27. Candidates now want to know when the examination will be conducted. According to senior officials from the council, the question papers will have to be prepared again.Officials want to prevent future paper leaks. This has strengthened the proposal to conduct the examination online, and the State Examination Council has begun preliminary preparations for the transition.Director of MSCE, Nandkumar Bedse, said, “This process will take around one and a half months, making it impossible to hold the examination before Sept. At the same time, the state govt is considering shifting future TET examinations to the online mode. However, since this will be the first time the examination is conducted online, the council will need to study technical and administrative aspects before taking a final decision.Officials clarified that discussions with higher authorities are underway. Although online examinations are being actively considered, the decision is not final. If approved, future TET examinations will be conducted online.Earlier, in the 2019 TET, 7,787 candidates were found to have obtained certificates through fraudulent means and in 2018 examination, 9,663 candidates were found to have secured certificates illegally.
