Chennai: The Tamil Nadu govt on Friday informed the Madras high court that appointments of govt advocates on temporary basis are being carried out strictly in accordance with law. The submission was made in response to an allegation made by a TVK lawyer that bribes ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 30 lakhs are being demanded for the posts.Advocate-general Vijay Narayan submitted that the appointments are temporary as the courts cannot be left without the govt being represented. “Notification inviting applications for the posts was issued on June 5. Several thousands of applications have been received, and they will duly be evaluated and assessed,“ he said.Narayan added that it will take at least three to six months to complete the process and make permanent appointments. The submissions were made on a plea moved by advocate M Gnanasoundari, an office bearer of TVK‘s legal wing. Recording the submissions of the AG, Justice Mohammed Shaffiq disposed of the plea.Earlier, the court pointed out that the petitioner herself had stated that advocates affiliated with both the DMK and the AIADMK were being considered for appointment on a temporary basis, indicating that there was no discrimination in the selection process and that the appointments appeared to be fair.
