Mohali: A 23-year-old electrician died in a road accident Friday morning while returning home to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with his three sisters.Parampreet, a resident of Machhlikalan village and the only son of his parents, was riding home after finishing his shift at a hotel in Zirakpur when an unidentified vehicle allegedly hit his motorcycle on Bharatmala Road near Airport Chowk.According to police and family members, the impact threw him off the bike and he suffered fatal head injuries after striking a metal angle protruding from the divider. He died before help could reach him.Parampreet had been working in Zirakpur for the past six months and was staying with relatives there. Family members said he left for home around 7.30 am, eager to celebrate Raksha Bandhan as his three sisters were waiting for him.His friend, Gurjit Singh, said traffic was sparse at the time of the accident. A passerby spotted the injured youth and alerted the police and ambulance services.Police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital mortuary and launched an investigation.Family loses sole breadwinnerParampreet was unmarried and the sole son of his parents. With his elderly father unable to do much physical work, he shouldered much of the family’s responsibility. His three sisters had been waiting to tie Rakhi to him when news of the accident reached the family.CCTV footage under scannerPolice are examining CCTV footage from Airport Chowk and nearby areas to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. The postmortem is likely to be conducted on Saturday. Further action will be taken once the vehicle and driver are traced.
